CCPI Europe present at 2nd Thermocouple users & manufacturers workshop
Trevor Ford, Technical Director of CCPI Europe Ltd. Dr Michele Scervini, Research Scientist in the Department of Material Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge. The two presented an update paper on the New Low Drift Base Metal mineral insulated thermocouples cable. This was at the 2nd Thermocouple users and manufacturers workshop held at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Teddington, UK.
The presentation gave an update showing how the performance of this new Low Drift Base Metal thermocouple cable. Consequently, this shows a >80% reduction in drift performance when compared with the current MI cables in the temperature range above 1000 °C.
The low drift thermocouples underwent vigorous testing at the CCPI Europe thermal calibration laboratory at temperatures between 1100 – 1300 °C. Overall, the results showed a staggering reduction in drift.
The presentation also highlighted how this new low drift cable had effectively raised the reliable operating temperature limit. This being for both type N and K thermocouples made to the low drift design by over 150 °C.
